Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year at Mt. Pleasant Middle School!

Starting middle school is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to partnering with you to make this a year filled with learning, growth, new friendships, and memorable experiences. To help your child have a smooth, successful start, please review the important information below, starting with the MPM School Handbook! It contains important information on expectations and procedures here at MPM. To remain connected to all that is happening at Mt. Pleasant Middle School and throughout Livingston Public Schools, we encourage every family to join ParentSquare as soon as possible. ParentSquare will be our primary source of communication throughout the 2026–2027 school year, providing important school announcements, district news, event reminders, emergency notifications, and classroom updates all in one convenient place. We will be using ParentSquare early and often, so staying connected will ensure you never miss important information. For a detailed explanation of ParentSquare, step-by-step registration instructions, and a helpful video tutorial, please visit the ParentSquare Webpage.

Important Health Forms and Medical Information
Please complete and submit all required health forms before the first day of school. Some forms are required
for all incoming sixth-grade students, while others are required only for students with specific medical needs. If
your child has a medical condition such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, seizures, or another health concern,
please make sure the appropriate medical forms are completed and submitted before school begins. All
required forms are available through the Genesis Parent Portal.

Medication Drop-Off
If your child requires medication at school, Nurse Heesemann will be available to receive medication on the following dates. Please review the requirements prior to drop off for all prescription and over-the-counter medications.

● August 25: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM
● August 26: 1:00–3:00 PM
● August 27: By appointment — please email Nurse Heesemann to schedule a time

In accordance with Livingston Public Schools Board Policy 5330 – Administration of Medication, written authorization from your child’s physician is required for any medication to be administered at school.

The physician’s order must include:
● The reason for the medication
● The dosage
● The time or circumstances when the medication should be administered
● The beginning and ending dates
● The physician’s signature

New for 2026–2027, Livingston Public Schools requires a physician’s order for all over-the-counter medications, including Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, Tums, cough drops, and similar medications. Parents must also provide all medications in their original, labeled containers. No exceptions can be made to this requirement. Medication authorization forms are available on the Livingston Public Schools Health Services webpage.

If you have questions about health forms or your child’s medical needs, please contact our school nurse, Ms. Diana Heesemann, at Diana Heesemann or 973-535-8000 ext. 8079.

Internet-Enabled Device Policy
On August 8, 2026, this letter was shared via ParentSquare to explain the new state-mandated ban on Personal Internet-Enabled Devices. Please take a moment to review the policy and discuss it with your child. We will address this with the students during the first week of school.

Schedules & Schoology
Student schedules will be live in the Genesis portal on Monday, August 24th. Click the link to access your parent portal, view your child's schedule, and acknowledge the required forms, including the Code of Conduct under the Forms tab. If you see a scheduling error, please complete the Schedule Change Request Form. School counselors are available periodically throughout the summer to assist with questions. Please contact the
main office at 973-535-8000 ext. 8070. Teachers and students in grade 6 will use Schoology, the district learning management platform. Click here to access the Schoology portal.

Bus Riders
If your child rides the school bus, please check the Genesis Parent Portal for bus stop information and pickup times. We recommend arriving at the bus stop a few minutes early during the first week of school. Transportation questions may be directed to the Livingston Public Schools Transportation Department at 973-535-8000 ext. 8013 or 8027. Students arriving by bus will report to the Auditorium. A staff member will be at the bus drop-off to direct the students into the building.

Drop-Off
If you are driving your child to school, please have them ready to exit the vehicle promptly. Staff members will be directing traffic, and we ask that all families follow their directions to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. The parking lot becomes very busy after 8:20 a.m., so please plan accordingly. For everyone's safety, all students and families must use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Please do not walk through the
parking lot. Students will wait in the front yard until 8:25 before entering the school.

Time to Begin Middle School...
Beginning at 8:25 a.m., students waiting outside will enter the building. Teams 1 and 2 will report to the Auditorium via the main entrance, while Teams 3 and 4 will report to the Cafeteria via Door #3. Students should look for their Advisory teacher, who will be holding a sign displaying their last name. Advisory teachers will guide the students from there and help them navigate day one of middle school.

We are thrilled to start another school year here at Mt. Pleasant Middle School. Our faculty and staff are eager to meet our newest Jr. Lancers and help them transition successfully to middle school. We know this year will be filled with opportunities to learn, grow, discover new interests, and build lasting friendships.
